Or head to www.ttt.live #REPOST @dominickalipersad & UK Black History] Trinidadian WWII hero Ulric Cross was the most decorated of Britain's Royal Air Force (RAF) West Indian recruits during the war he later became a producer-presenter with the BBC, then a go-between in several African countries’ struggles against imperialism. From Belmont, Port of Spain, Cross was among 250 Trinidadians who left to join the RAF. Of the 250, fifty-two were killed in action. In 1941 Cross acted as a navigator on Mosquito aircraft and survived 80 bombing missions to Germany and occupied France. He retired from the RAF as Squadron Leader in 1946, having been awarded the DSO (Distinguished Service Order) and DFC (Distinguished Flying Cross). Subsequently, he became a lawyer and spent 15 years in Africa before retiring in 1993 to his native Trinidad. He also served as a High Court and Appeal Court judge in Port of Spain as well as High Commissioner for Trinidad and Tobago to London (1990-93).
